About Historia Home
Historia Home is for people who love old things: the chest of drawers from a grandparent, the flea-market find, the period house with original features. We explain how to read the clues in antique furniture, care for it, and decorate with history.
How we write our guides
Our guides draw on established furniture history and conservation practice. Dating clues are rules of thumb, not proof: construction methods overlapped, and pieces were repaired and altered over time.
We do not value items or claim expertise we cannot show. For anything that may be valuable, we recommend an accredited appraiser or a reputable auction house before you clean, repair or sell it.
Protecting value
On antiques, original finish and patina are often part of the value. Always start with the gentlest method, test on a hidden area, and when in doubt, stop and ask a professional conservator.
